The Department of Education is planning a new multi-purpose hall, 2-storey learning centre, new car parks, drop-off and pick-up area and bus area, as well as refurbishments to the administration and multi-purpose buildings for Mount Ommaney Special School.
The proposed developments and refurbishments will provide the school with new and upgraded facilities to meet curriculum and extra-curricular needs.
In late 2024, concept plans and a site map were shared with the school and community for feedback.
This proposal is now with the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning for assessment under a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) and is open for community consultation.
Project scope (funded)
The proposed development will include:
- new 2-storey learning centre with 10 classrooms
- new multi-purpose hall with music, gym and associated spaces, and car parking below
- refurbishment of the existing multi-purpose building for use as a new administration building
- refurbishment of the existing administration building for use as a multi-purpose building and specialist offices
- 5 classrooms and a specialty space in Block J
- new car park from Endeavour Street frontage of the site
- new car parking and drop-off/pick-up area including access ramp to the administration building
- enhanced bus drop-off/pick-up area with an extended covered platform for weather protection
- playground, shade structures and open play area to suit reconfigured.

Next steps
The Minister will consider the proposal and submissions before making a final decision. The Department of Education will provide an update once a decision has been made.
