The department is planning a new Health Sciences Academy for Rockhampton to help connect students interested in a health career to educational pathways, and follow their passion for health sciences, without needing to move away from their families or communities.
The Rockhampton campus will be the first regionally-based Queensland Academy and will cater for students from Years 10 to 12.
Preliminary consultation is being undertaken for the new academy.
The academy will boost the pipeline of health workers in regional Queensland by helping to fast track local students into health careers of choice, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health professionals.
The department will share more information with the community when it is available.
