The Queensland Department of Education (DoE) uses social media to provide information to parents and carers, share updates about Queensland state schools, and promote student, staff and community achievements and events.
These guidelines apply to all official DoE social media accounts, including, but not limited to:
Monitoring and responses
The department's social media channels are monitored during business hours.
While the department may respond to comments and messages where appropriate, it does not guarantee a response to all enquiries received via social media.
User conduct
The department encourages respectful and constructive participation on its social media channels.
When engaging with the department's social media accounts, users must not post content that:
- is offensive, abusive, defamatory or obscene
- is discriminatory or promotes hate
- is threatening, harassing or bullying
- contains personal or sensitive information about themselves or others
- is false, misleading or unlawful
- breaches copyright or intellectual property rights
- falsely represents another person, organisation or government entity
- relates to ongoing legal proceedings or investigations
- promotes commercial products, services or spam
- is repetitive or disruptive to the community.
The department reserves the right to hide, remove or report content that does not comply with these guidelines. Users who breach these guidelines may be blocked from the relevant social media channel.
Complaints
Social media channels are not monitored for the purpose of receiving or managing formal complaints.
If you have a complaint about the content of a social media post or a comment, including where you believe defamatory material has been posted by another user, please email communication@qed.qld.gov.au.

Platform policies
The department's social media channels are also subject to the terms of use and community standards of each respective platform. Users are expected to comply with both DoE's moderation guidelines and those broader platform policies. These include:
Staff usage
Department employees are expected to comply with the DoE's social media policies when using social media. This includes the DoE social media policy and the Queensland Public Service Code of Conduct.
Privacy
To protect your privacy, you should not share personal information (including contact details or student information) via public comments or direct messages.
