Teachers’ Certified Agreement 2019

The Department of Education State School Teachers’ Certified Agreement 2019 (Teachers’ Agreement) was certified by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission on 19 November 2019. The new agreement operates from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2022.

The 3-year Teachers’ Agreement provides our teachers, heads of program and school leaders with some of the best pay and conditions in Australia, acknowledging the hard work that teachers do every day, in every Queensland State School classroom.

Key changes

The key features of the Teachers' Agreement are:

  • annual pay increases of 2.5% per year over the life of the 3-year agreement
  • a new classification structure for school leaders, such as principals and deputy principals
  • a one-off $1,250 sign on bonus for Stream 1 Classroom Teachers
  • boosting incentives for beginning teachers in remote locations by providing them with a one-off $1,000 payment on commencement in the position
  • a range of workload management initiatives, including increased non-contact time for primary and special school teachers and release time for beginning teachers
  • improved conditions for parental leave for primary care givers
  • improved gender pay equity for part-time teachers through amendments to the incremental progression process
  • simplifying and enhancing the classification and process for Senior Teachers and Experienced Senior Teachers
  • introduction of a new Experienced Senior Teacher Level 2 classification
  • greater support for workplace health and safety
  • clarification of Education Officer—Special Duties (EOSD) conditions
  • more flexible arrangements for student free days
  • bringing Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher arrangements into the Teachers’ Agreement.
