From 9 to 11 May 2023, a Far North Queensland Regional Sitting of Queensland Parliament will take place at the Cairns Convention Centre.
To enable students to visit and experience the Regional Sitting and associated activities, a subsidy scheme has been established to allow state and non-state students to attend the Regional Parliament. There will also be an opportunity for some students to participate in a Junior Indigenous Youth Parliament and a Cairns Youth Parliament.
Subsidies will be open to state schools and non-state schools in Far North Queensland.
Depending on their distance from the Regional Sitting, the following subsidies are available:
- $300 for a student flying to attend
- $100 for a student travelling by road greater than 4 hours
- $50 for a student travelling by road between 1.5 and 4 hours
- $25 for a student travelling by road within 1.5 hours.
Schools will be able to apply for these subsidies and register their interest in attending from the beginning of Term 1 2023. For more information, contact
