New schools for the 2020 school year

The Queensland Government is committed to funding and delivering 8 new schools to address the growing enrolments of students across the state. This includes the construction of new secondary schools in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane's inner city, Calliope, Coomera, Mango Hill, Yarrabilba and Ripley Valley Providence, a new primary school in Ripley Valley Providence, and a new special school in Caboolture.

New State High School in Fortitude Valley

  • A new state secondary college in Fortitude Valley will open to Year 7 students in 2020.
  • It will be located on the corner of Brookes Street and St Pauls Terrace.
  • The school will be delivered in partnership with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
  • The school will open in 3 stages: Brookes Street Precinct ready for the start of Term 1, 2020, St Pauls Terrace Precinct during 2020 and the Future Secondary Learning Precinct in Term 1, 2023.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school.
  • A contract for the design and construction for the first 2 stages of the new school was awarded to Hutchinson Builders in October 2018.
  • Refurbishment works in the existing Brookes Street building are underway.
  • Earthworks and in-ground works for the performing arts centre and junior learning building are also underway.
  • The Foundation Principal, Ms Sharon Barker was appointed in July 2018.
  • The Department of Education is collecting expressions of interest for enrolments for the new high school in inner Brisbane.
New State High School in Fortitude Valley

New State High School in Yarrabilba

  • A new state high school in Yarrabilba will open for Years 7 and 8 students in 2020.
  • The school site is bounded by McKinnon Drive, Scoria Street, Soapstone Crescent and Shilin Street in the community of Yarrabilba.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school in conjunction with Building Queensland.
  • A contract for the design and construction of the new school was awarded to Broad Construction in December 2018.
New State High School in Yarrabilba

New State High School in Coomera

  • A new state high school in the fast-growing area of Coomera, will open for Year 7 students in 2020.
  • It is located off Foxwell Road, opposite the intersection with Jotown Drive.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school in conjunction with Building Queensland.
  • A contract for the design of the new school was awarded to FK Gardner & Sons (FKG) in February 2019.
New State High School in Coomera

New State High School in Mango Hill

  • A new state high school in the fast-growing area of Mango Hill, will open for Year 7 students in 2020.
  • The school site is bounded by Kinsellas Road East and Richard Road.

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school in conjunction with Building Queensland.
  • A contract for the design of the new school was awarded to FK Gardner & Sons (FKG) in December 2018.
New State High School in Mango Hill

New State Primary School in Ripley Valley

  • A new primary school in Ripley Valley will open for Prep to Year 6 students in 2020.
  • The school site is located at the corner of Providence Parade and Botany Drive.
  • It will be adjacent to the new state high school which will be located at the corner of Providence Parade and Parkway Avenue.
  • The new school will provide additional capacity to accommodate future growth, while also relieving enrolment pressure from surrounding state primary schools.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school in conjunction with Building Queensland.
  • The developer for the area has prepared the site for the new schools and is continuing the construction of the road network required to service the school. A contract for the design and construction of the new school was awarded to Watpac Construction in January 2019.

New State High School in Ripley Valley

  • A new state high school in Ripley Valley will open for Years 7 and 8 students in 2020.
  • The school site is located at the corner of Providence Parade and Parkway Avenue.
  • The high school will be adjacent to the new state primary school which will be located at the corner of Providence Parade and Botany Drive.

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school in conjunction with Building Queensland.
  • The developer for the area has prepared the site for the new schools and is continuing the construction of the road network required to service the school. A contract for the design and construction of the new school was awarded to Watpac Construction (Watpac) in January 2019.
New State High School in Ripley Valley

New special school at Caboolture

  • A new special school in Caboolture will open for Years 7 to 12 students in 2020.
  • The school is located on the existing Caboolture State High School campus on Lee Street, Caboolture.
  • Over time, the existing Caboolture Special School will transition from a Prep to Year 12 special school to a Prep to Year 6 special school.
  • The school will work with families to determine the most appropriate location for existing students during this transition period.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school.
  • To enable the development of the special school, early works are underway by McNab Constructions to relocate the College of Civil Infrastructure and Construction facility and undertake earthworks.
  • A contract for the design and construction of the new school was awarded to Badge Construction (Badge) in December 2018.
New special school at Caboolture

New State High School in Calliope

  • A new state high school in Calliope will open for Years 7 and 8 students in 2020.
  • The school site is located on Don Cameron Drive and will accommodate state secondary students living in Calliope and nearby areas.

Project updates

  • The department has completed schematic design and a detailed business case for this new school.
  • A contract for the design and construction of the new school was awarded to Paynters in late 2018.
  • Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Education Minister Grace Grace and Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher turned the first sod on 22 January 2019.
  • Site establishment and earthworks are underway.
