Building Education: Facts and figures

The department manages an asset portfolio worth over $18 billion which includes:

  • 1,241 state schools
    • 185 secondary schools
    • 919 primary schools
    • 43 special schools
    • 92 combined primary and secondary schools
    • 2 specific purpose schools
    • more than 35,000 learning spaces and support facilities.

For 2018-2019:

  • $923 million has been invested for Queensland state schools
  • $218 milllion has been allocated to maintenance. This included:
    • $210 million for schools
    • $2.57 million for Early Childhood Education and Care centres
    • $5 million for employee housing
  • $800 million has been allocated towards progressing the Building Future Schools program
  • 8 new schools are being prepared for 2020.

This investment will benefit:

  • over 560,000 full-time students
  • over 52,100 teachers
  • over 91,400 departmental employees
  • 249 Independent Public Schools.
