Cairns State High School’s new $12.1 million (GST inclusive) Centennial Hall: Sports and Arts complex has officially opened.
The new complex, officially named ‘Bou-wa—the Centennial Hall’, commemorates an Indigenous elder from more than 100 years ago.
The building includes a number of new areas for the school, including 3 sports courts, a stage, foyer, amenities, storage and a box office.
The new facilities have provided sports courts for students to play basketball, netball and volleyball and can also be used as a performance and auditorium space, designed to meet the needs of students well into the future.
The Bou-wa Hall is a significant investment for the growing school’s sports and performing arts subject areas.
This project also included the refurbishment of classrooms in Block J, which were completed for the start of the 2021 school year.
The new facilities were delivered through the Queensland Government’s $235 million
Renewing Our Schools program and have supported up to 36 local jobs for local tradespeople and 12 apprentices.
