The department is planning for a new primary school to open in 2023 to relieve enrolment pressures at state schools in Brisbane's inner western suburbs.
The new primary school will provide long term enrolment capacity in the school network and enable the department to address the enrolment demand that is occurring in this area. It will ensure all families who wish to send their children to local state schools are able to do so.
The proposed school will provide general learning areas, specialist spaces, multimedia spaces, special education facilities and outdoor learning areas.
Community consultation will be undertaken on the location, proposed master plan for the school, school design and integration within the local schooling network.
One possible location includes part of the Indooroopilly State High School site. The first stage of consultation ended on Sunday 28 February 2021 and involved seeking feedback regarding the location for the new school.
The department launched an online survey for the community to provide their feedback on the proposed site, including key concerns, priorities and alternative sites. The department also hosted a series of face-to-face consultations in February 2021 to give the community the opportunity to provide further feedback. The face-to-face sessions shared the key alternative sites proposed by the community throughout the consultation process.
The department is in the process of reviewing all feedback and considering the next steps for the project.
