Students at Waterford West State School ended their year with an art auction and shared amazing student artwork with the community.

The Waterford West State School Arts and Culture Evening showcased the talents of every Waterford West State School student and some staff and culminated in an art auction, with the funds raised being reinvested at the school.

Principal Allison McClean said each class constructed an artwork which then featured in the silent auction.

“Members of the public placed bids on the artwork and the highest bidder at the close of the auction won the artwork,” Ms McClean said.

“Waterford West State School has a great sense of community and all 690 students contributed to the Arts and Culture Evening by presenting one or more pieces of visual artwork.

“I am extremely proud on nights like this where we really come together as a community and showcase the skills of our amazing students,” Ms McClean said.

“Artworks ranged from paper and paddle pop sticks to clay, paint and pastel, and were all great examples of artistic expression coordinated by Mrs Paula Jackson-Burke, our fabulous Visual Art teacher.”

Deputy Principal Gary Boobyer said there was a very upbeat feel throughout the evening with positive comments from parents and students.

“The proud students showed their artwork to their families and friends as we celebrated their learning and talents with presentations from the school band, choir and our Indigenous dance troupe,” Mr Boobyer said.

“The Arts and Culture Evening is a celebration of the achievement of each and every student and it is so uplifting to see students showing their artwork to their family with such joy and then seeing the faces of the parents light up with amazement and pride.”
