Pedal-powered fun with Prep Buddies Page Image Image CaptionIt's the Tour de France for preppies! But don't worry, their Year 6 Buddies are not far away Page ContentLittle legs a-blur, pedals pumping, smiles wide—this is the Tour de France for preppies! Nurtured by a program called Prep Buddies, a special relationship has developed between the Year 6 students and the Prep students at Darra State School. They have become the best of friends.'This school has a big heart; we work together as a tight-knit family unit,' explains Principal Gayle Healey.'Our Year 6 students volunteer in the Prep playground at break times to support the Prep students to develop their social skills. This also builds responsibility and leadership skills for our Year 6 students.' The youngest school members particularly love riding the school's tricycles. With their older buddies helping, and sometimes refereeing, the Prep students learn to share and take turns.'The students form such a strong bond, developing positive, supportive relationships. This program is one of many at Darra State School enhancing the school culture of looking after and caring for others,' she said.
