Kindness at Coomera State School is A-OK

An act of kindness or AOK is a selfless act performed by kind people to either help or cheer up a random stranger, for no reason other than to make people happier.

The acts of kindness initiative has been trialled this year at Coomera State School to help develop students’ social skills and minimise behavioural issues at the school.

Acting principal Shiree Salazar said the initiative was helping to shift the whole mindset of the school.

"AOK has been really successful with all students and staff getting involved in the initiative,” Ms Salazar said.

"The program, led by our peer mentor leaders, invites our school community to complete an act of kindness each day and play along on their bingo card.

"Students complete a slip to track the AOKs they have completed and they can then offer a suggestion for the next AOK and also vote on the free dress colour.

"Free dress reward days are the colour nominated on the bingo cards the most frequently across the school.

"The acts of kindness are set for each day, published on our Facebook page and announced over the school PA.

"I am very proud of the way things have started working at the school and this initiative will be continued to ensure the outcomes are long lasting," Ms Salazar said.
