Full house for music camp

High performing music students rehearse at the music camp

It was a full house on and off stage when 284 music students from the South East Region performed to a packed audience at the Gold Coast Recreation Centre, following a 4-day music camp.

The concert featured students performing in 5 ensembles – string orchestra, chamber orchestra, concert band, jazz band, and choir to demonstrate the repertoire they had studied, practised and rehearsed throughout the camp.

Alana Russell, Regional Music Camp coordinator, said the event challenged the students with opportunities to extend their musical skills by rehearsing with other high-performing students.

“The intensive musical instruction provided by qualified and experienced instrumental music teachers extends the students beyond what they previously thought possible, not only musically but emotionally and socially,” Alana said.

South East Region music coordinator Kellie Kremmer said the camp also allowed more than 60 instrumental teachers from across the region to collaborate, undertake professional development and work with the region’s top music students.

“From over 400 nominations, only the top 87 choral singers and 197 string and band students from Years 5 and 6 participated in this extension event – providing a priceless opportunity for our teachers and students alike,” Kellie said.
