Celebrating a close-knit community

Close-knit: Sunnybank students celebrating with tree wrapping.

To celebrate State Education Week in a unique way, last month 8 trees at the front of Sunnybank State High School were wrapped in colourful, hand-knitted blankets.

Embracing the State Education Week 2018 theme of 'celebrating our community' staff, students and community members were invited to knit, weave or crochet a square in the school colours.

The individual pieces were sewn together and wrapped around each tree, creating an eye-catching display.

"This activity symbolises our school community coming together and connecting across cultures.

"It is a reflection and celebration of our unity," Sunnybank State High School principal, Tracey Cook, said.

"The woven stories of the Sunnybank Project have empowered our community to connect and collaborate, to share our stories, culture and learning through creative pursuits.

"It has been inspiring to witness the community spirit of staff, families, students, parents, visitors and representatives who have supported our endeavour," she said.
